Tresco Coffee Table

This piece is the latest in my Scilly Islands series of pieces and is available as a coffee table or wall art, in a variety of materials. Tresco is a beautiful island with amazing white sand beaches, clear turquoise waters, surrounded by interesting offshore rocks and small islands. In this table I have captured the seabed contours and submerged reefs by carving these from a single piece of Ash. The island of Tresco itself is then inserted into the ash, giving contrasting colour and grain to the island. The two natural lakes are added to the contours of the island surface. The ash table leg “tenons” are accurately morticed into the seabed, then encapsulated into the epoxy resin ocean. A layer of 6mm toughened glass provides a clear flat surface which enables the table to be used as a regular coffee table; a functional piece of art!
