This piece is crafted from a combination of hardwoods; Ash, Sweet Chestnut, Sycamore and Oak. The rock itself is my interpretation of the actual Bishop Rock, with contoured layers evoking the great depth around the light. The lighthouse itelf is layers of Oak and Ash, to capture the impressive nature of the huge granite blocks used in the real construction. It looks very different in changing light; a bit like the ocean then!
A 3D Sculpture in hardwood and epoxy resin of the legendary Bishop Rock Lighthouse. I’ve become really fascinated by Lighthouses. In 2021 I had an amazing adventure, swimming from Cornwall to the Wolf Rock Lighthouse. Close up, these really are beautiful things, constructed by the most amazing engineers. I wanted to capture the feeling of arriving there with this sculpture. My next planned adventure is to swim from St. Mary’s to the Bishop Rock; next stop USA!
